The Metropolis system to manage public and individual transport
Public and Individual Transportation module allows you to manage, among other things:
- Toll collection system (SPO),
- transportation infrastructure (ITS),
- dynamic passenger information (SDIP).
The module processes and analyses online data from vehicles and GPS, as well as information from traffic supervision and drivers. It provides effective real-time response to events in the city's transportation system – breakdowns, accidents, delays. It contributes to improving its efficiency and reducing maintenance costs, as well as increasing user comfort.
Toll collection system (SPO)
The tolling system allows users to set up an account with information about the owner's entitlements, including tickets purchased and discounts, as well as the history of journeys. The system operates in online mode. All data is collected in a central system. It supports multiple identifiers for passengers. From dedicated proximity cards (e.g., city cards), mobile applications, devices with NFC, QR codes to contactless debit cards (EMV).
Compliant with standards
The Toll collection system complies with the standards of payment organisations for handling payments in public transportation: MTT for VISA and PAYG for Mastercard. As a result, it provides the necessary speed and high security as well as an optimal settlement model.
Flexible fees
The system uses contactless payment cards. It allows fare collection according to the exact time or distance traveled. At the end of the day, it selects the most cost-effective ticket and the corresponding charge from the payment card. The passenger will be charged with a daily ticket when it is more cost-effective than the sum of single tickets.
Information in one place
Thanks to the mobile application and the portal, the passenger has full access to her/his data: entitlements, discounts, transaction history. She/he also gains intuitive and quick access to complaints and customer service. The system also makes it possible to plan a trip and purchase a ticket from different carriers and for different modes of transportation (bus, tram, rail).
Benefits for carriers
- The Toll collection system supports, among other things, the settlement and distribution of revenues for tickets sold among carriers.
- It takes into account concessions and discounts.
- Improves the record keeping of personnel work.
- It helps allocate the fleet to courses resulting from the dynamic schedule, as well as to monitor them.
- In addition, the Toll Collection System allows for efficient ticket control with the ability to immediately collect an additional fee during the ride.

Bus stop monitoring system (ITS)
ITS systems – smart transportation systems – are used to manage vehicular transportation in the city. ITS solutions help streamline vehicle traffic. In the case of Metropolis, the ITS system prevents congestion at bus stops, thus improving passenger safety and comfort. ITS uses CCTV cameras and advanced algorithms. As a result, ITS continuously monitors and reports what vehicles (model, make, colour), and duration of stay at bus stops.
The analysis of the vehicle photo is done by measuring the front belt of the vehicle in question, the grille system and the lights, and then the analysis data is compared with the vehicle pattern in the system. The linking of tracked vehicle information between analysis data on different cameras is done by vehicle registration number.
The monitoring record allows for effective collection of debts from carriers who do not pay fees resulting from the use of the city's infrastructure, as well as for controlling whether the terms of the signed agreement, e.g., with regard to parking time, are being observed. The use of the ITS system improves the flow of vehicles in bus stop bays, shortens the time of receiving passengers and the process of ticket sales by the driver.
Dynamic passenger information system (SDIP)
Thanks to it, the transportation operator and passengers receive up-to-date information about public transportation routes. The Dynamic passenger information system includes variable message boards, where the timetable is presented in real time, but also a dedicated public address system that informs passengers automatically of schedule changes.
The system makes it possible to obtain data on:
- location of public transportation vehicles,
- routes,
- implemented courses,
- delays and accelerations compared to the timetable,
- operation of system components, such as the operation of controllers in vehicles or bus stop boards.
Passenger information is presented on electronic boards at stops and in vehicles. These include: name of the stop, line number, forecast and/or scheduled departure time, announcements about obstacles or detours.
Information from the SDIP system is also made available through mobile apps and websites, among other travel planners. Thanks to them, passengers can conveniently plan an optimal trip using various modes of transportation and taking into account the current traffic.
The Dynamic Passenger Information System can be part of the Interchange management system, which provides consistent management of the interchange point and timetable. It integrates dynamic passenger information (SDIP) with automatic voice announcements. The system is equipped with a camera system with recorders and analytical software for license plate recognition and analysis of stop times, so it monitors vehicle traffic and verifies entitlements to enter the bus station area. The solution introduces a new standard for passenger information – easily accessible, comprehensive, updated in real time and adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
