Asseco will support digitization of postal services in Zambia
May 26, 2022
Asseco, the largest IT company in the CEE region, will form a EUR 10 million joint venture with the Zambian government to digitize the country's postal services.
Representatives of the Zambian government have signed a memorandum of understanding with Asseco defining the principles of cooperation under the project to establish a local IT company. It will be responsible for the digital transformation of ZamPost (Zambia Postal Services Corporation), the state-owned operator of postal services in Zambia. The project includes the digitization of some of the existing services as well as the introduction of new ones, such as electronic banking and e-commerce. This will improve service levels for citizens, who will also gain access to additional offerings.
All Zambian residents and local entrepreneurs can benefit from the effects of digitization of postal services. This is yet another stage of digital development in this country which, just like other African countries, follows this global trend - said Paweł Hansdorfer, Foreign Markets Director, Asseco Data Systems. We are delighted that the Zambian government decided to invite an experienced partner such as Asseco to cooperate in this project. We are present in 60 countries worldwide and have extensive experience in the digitization of both business and the public sector, also in African countries. An example is Cyber Defense Africa, an institution launched as part of the cooperation between the Togolese government and Asseco, which is responsible for the country's cyber security, he added.
The document was signed a day after the opening of this year's European Union - Zambia Economic Forum, which aims to initiate cooperation between businesses and institutions from these countries and increase the number of European investments in Zambia. According to the memorandum of understanding concluded between Asseco and the Government of Zambia, the agreement between these entities will be signed by the end of July this year.
